Wine industry meets today with viticulture and enology students

The annual Viticulture and Enology Career Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Department of Viticulture and Enology’s Research Center. Eighteen wineries and other industry-related employers will have representatives available to talk with students during the event. Details: Career Fair

 

Services to the Community Expo is Feb. 2

Students and faculty/staff who wish to partner with local nonprofit organizations and agencies will have an opportunity to do so from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Services to the Community Expo in the Satellite Student Union. Civil war in Chad is subject of film

The movie “Daresalam (Let there Be Peace)” will be shown at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 in ED 170 of the Kremen School of Education. The film, in Arabic and French with English subtitles, focuses on the civil war raging in Chad since 1960. A post-screening discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Meta Schettler of Africana studies. There is no charge for admission.

 

Visiting professors program seeks applicants

Applications are due Friday, Feb. 3, for fulltime professors who wish to teach abroad in the 2007-8 academic year as part of the University Studies Abroad Consortium’s visiting professors programs for American undergraduates studying in 11 countries.  Details and applications are available from the International Programs Office by calling 278.6452 or via e-mail to lhammar@csufresno.edu.

 

10th Snowfest hits slopes Feb. 4

The 10th annual Snowfest for faculty, staff and their families is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 4, at Sierra Summit near Huntington Lake. The lifts open at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for skills in snowman-construction and skiing and there will be a drawing for other prizes at noon. Participants should plan to bring their lunch. FFA State Finals bring 3,500 high school students to campus

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology will host the day-long 2006 Mid-Winter FFA Field Day and State Finals on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Agriculture Sciences building and the Fresno State Farm Laboratory. The event attracts about 3,500 students from high schools throughout California. Visit: FFA Field Day

 

Laval Award for technology and research seeks applicants

Faculty and fulltime undergraduate and graduate students at Fresno State have until Feb. 10 to apply for the Claude C. Laval Jr. Award for Technology & Research, named for a local innovator and inventor. Since its establishment in 1984, the award has supported the development of innovative technology and related research at Fresno State. Armenian Studies Program will hold 18th annual banquet

The Armenian Studies Program will hold its18th annual banquet Feb. 12 in the Residence Dining Facility, recognizing benefactors, whose support has been instrumental in the growth and success of the program at Fresno State. Featured entertainment will be the premiere Fresno screening of the award-winning film "Khachaturian," a cinematic portrait of legendary Armenian/Soviet composer Aram Khachaturian. Presentation proposals due for regional education conference
Presentation proposals are due Feb. 21 for the Excellence in Teaching and Learning conference to be held at Fresno State on March 24. Richter Awards nominations due Feb. 24

The deadline is Feb. 24 to nominate for the Jan and Bud Richter Awards of Excellence to a professor in the Kremen School of Education, a staff member in the Kremen School and a professor outside of the school who prepares teachers in Liberal Studies. African American student recruitment conference is Feb. 27

The 24th Annual African American Student Recruitment Conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 27 in the Satellite Student Union. Seminar focuses on recruiting graduate students
The Division of Graduate Studies will host a graduate recruitment seminar from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 17 at the Alice Peters Auditorium. This intensive, one-day workshop for graduate faculty and support staff will address the particular needs of Fresno State and share proven strategies for making recruitment efforts more effective, even on a limited budget.
