New program helps ‘non-nurses’ earn nursing degree
The Fresno State  Department of Nursing has developed an accelerated entry-level master’s nursing program offering people who are not nurses an opportunity to enter the nursing field with a master of science in nursing degree.

The California State University Chancellor’s Office is funding the one-time offering to help alleviate the state’s substantial nursing shortage. Admission to the program requires individuals to have completed a bachelor of arts or science degree and the required nursing prerequisite courses before the end of the spring 2006 semester.

Classes in the accelerated program will begin May 22 and students will be able to take the Registered Nurse licensure examination 18 months later. A fulltime commitment – including summer and night courses – will lead to graduation with a master’s in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist/nurse educator in May 2009

For more information about courses or requirements, call the nursing admission's office at 559.278.6579.
