March brings another varied schedule of musical attractions to the Fresno State campus in addition to the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series (three performances this month) and a choral fund raiser. For further information, call 278.2654.

Piano duo plans ambitious program
Russian pianists Natasha Kislenko and Oksana Ezhokina will present an evening of music for two pianos at 8 p.m. March 1 in the Fresno State Concert Hall. The program will include compositions by Milhaud, Poulenc, Debussy, Stravinsky and Shostakovich. Admission is $10 general, $5 faculty/staff, $4 students. Spring Poetry Jam season begins
Beginners and experienced poets are welcome at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month for the Spring Poetry Jam season at Fresno State, presented in the Coffeehouse/Pub. Expression from anyone in words, songs or dance is welcome at the jams, which are sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center, the Women’s Alliance, University Student Union, the Diversity Awareness Program and Associated Students. Rogue Festival features Fresno State talent
Fresno state artists, writers and performers will participate in the fifth annual Rogue Performance Festival, which celebrates the work of independent artists March 2-11, in the Tower District and downtown Fresno. Dance, film, music, theater, spoken word, visual arts and other disciplines are incorporated in the event.  More...

Campus hosts benefit for University of New Orleans choral program

Fresno State’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Anna Hamre, will join three other local choirs at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, for “How Can I Keep from Singing?  A Benefit Concert for the Choirs of the University of New Orleans.” The performance in the university Concert Hall also features choirs from Fresno City College and Gibson Elementary School’s Gold Note Choir. The idea for the benefit concert came from Tara Melvin, a UNO music student, who came to Fresno State after Hurricane Katrina. When she returned to New Orleans, Melvin found her university’s choir facility, music and equipment devastated. ‘The Diviners’ comes to Arena Theatre
“The Diviners,” a rarely performed Depression Era drama about the bond between a back-sliding preacher and a misunderstood young man with a talent for divining water, will be performed beginning March 24 at the Arena Theatre. Theatre Arts Professor Brad Myers directs the play by Jim Leonard Jr. at 8 p.m. March 25, 25 and 28 and April 1. There is a matinee at 2 p.m. March 26. Tickets are $15 (general admission), $13 (faculty/staff with ID and 60+) and $8 (Fresno State students with ID). Award-winning children’s author-illustrator speaks March 27
Steven Kellogg, an award-winning children’s author and illustrator, will promote literacy during an appearance March 27 in the Residence Dining Facility that will include a reception, book signing and lecture.
