menopause course Wednesdays in March
The Life Work
Links Learn at Lunch program provides two free series beginning this month.
“Menopause or Madness,” a four-part series at noon Wednesdays, begins today,
March 1, in the Smittcamp Alumni House Boardroom. The spring “Get Fit”
series offers light aerobics for an hour on six Wednesdays at noon beginning
March 29 in Room 140 of the Kremen College of Education and Human
Development.

On-campus seminar
helps nonprofit professionals with networking
Fresno State’s
American Humanics Program and the Division of Continuing and Global
Education are sponsoring a seminar at noon Friday, March 3, on relationship
building for nonprofit organizations. The three-hour professional
development session for nonprofit professionals costs $50, which includes a

Workshop
helps parents/guardians plan for their disabled children
The
reservation deadline is March 7 for a workshop at 6 p.m. March 9 to help
faculty and staff members who are parents or guardians of children with
disabilities learn how to meet their dependent children’s future financial
needs. The $15-per-person cost of the three-hour session in the Smittcamp
Alumni House includes materials and refreshments. For more information, call

Zambia, Kenya,
Egypt, South Korea on Coffee Hour schedule
The
International Coffee Hour’s 13-year tradition of connecting the campus with
nations represented by the student body and faculty continues at 2 p.m. each
Tuesday in March. This month’s programs are about Zambia (March 7), Kenya
(March 14), Egypt (March 21) and South Korea (March 28). Coffee and
refreshments are served at each presentation, all of which are held in Room
312-314 of the University Student Union. This year’s coordinator is Yannis
Toutountzis a senior viticulture major from Greece. The adviser is Dr.
Katsuyo Howard of International Student Services and Programs.

Library topic March 10
Tom Killion,
a Santa Cruz-based fine-press author and illustrator, will discuss
“Illustrating the High Sierra: Adapting Japanese Woodcut Techniques for
Letterpress Printing” during the March 10 meeting of Friends of the Madden
Library. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception, followed by Killion’s
presentation at 6:30 in the Alice Peters Auditorium of the University
Business Center. Friends members are admitted at no charge; nonmembers pay
$2 at the door ($1 students).

Forum will teach character/civic education strategies
A forum March 10-11 will help teachers, teacher educators,
students and community leaders learn about building character and
appreciation for civic education and service-learning in grades K-12.
Presenters are Dr. John
Cruz, superintendent of the Fowler Unified School District; Deborah
Nankivell, executive director of the Fresno Business Council; Dr. Pam Lane-Garon,
a Fresno State professor of teacher education; and Dr. John Minkler, program
coordinator of the Fresno County Office of Education. The forum begins at 4
p.m. March 10 and runs until around 8:30. The full-day session March 11
begins at 8 a.m. Registration for Friday is $25 non-credit. There’s a $50
non-credit fee for both days and an additional $110 for one optional unit of

The deadline is
March 13 for students to submit applications to participate in the 20th
annual California State University Student Research Competition to be held
May 5-6 at CSU, Channel Islands. Application forms and guidelines are

Anxiety and
depression advice will be offered on campus
Members of the
campus community can learn about recognizing and treating anxiety disorders
as part of College Anxiety Screening Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 16,
sponsored by University Health and Psychological Services. Also available
to participants will be reviews of an anonymous depression checklist by a
counselor from Psychological Services. The free program will be offered in
Area E of University Health and Psychological Services. For details, please

Community building
is subject of social work conference
Fresno
State’s Department of Social Work will present a one-day conference,
“Community Synergies: Finding a Common Ground,” on March 17 at the Radisson
Hotel in downtown Fresno. The session will focus on community building to
promote economic and social development.

Preview Day 2006 scheduled
late March for prospective freshmen
Fall 2006
semester Fresno State applicants get a chance to meet and chat with faculty
and staff March 25 on the annual Preview Day, sponsored by University
Outreach Services. A record 13,500 applications from prospective freshmen
were received by the Feb. 1 deadline.
