February
grant awards exceed $1.1 million
In
February, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announced 11 grant
awards totaling $1,123,510. Grants were awarded to the
Colleges of Health
and Human Services, Social Sciences,
Agricultural Sciences and Technology, the Craig School of
Business, as well as the McNair Program
and Student Affairs.
German archaeologist discusses ancient
Persian, Assyrian cultures
Dr. Michael Roaf,
a professor of Near Eastern archaeology at Munich (Germany) University will
discuss his work investigating ancient Persian and Assyrian cultures during
the March 6 meeting of the Fresno County Archaeological Society/San Joaquin
Valley Chapter, Archaeological Institute of America. The lecture will begin
at 7 p.m. at Fresno State’s Alice Peters Auditorium in the University
Business Center at California State University, Fresno.

Erysian promoted to interim director of
international programs
Bill Erysian was
appointed interim director of International Programs, replacing Lucia Hammar,
who was chosen director of the International Student Services and Programs.
Erysian continues to serve as director of resource development for the
California State University Consortium for International Development, which
he founded. A search has begun for Erysian’s replacement at the consortium.
Common Threads luncheon reservations
available
Reservations are
being accepted for this year’s Common Threads Award luncheon April 7 at the
Satellite Student Union, an opportunity to honor five remarkable San Joaquin
Valley women in agriculture, and contribute to agricultural and other
nonprofit organizations. The honorees are Barbara Chrisman of Visalia, Gay
Hooper of Hanford, Milenda Meders of Chowchilla, Sue Safarjian of Kingsburg
and Patricia Wickstrom of Hilmar, recognized for their agricultural,
philanthropic and community service.

McNair Program accepting applications
for 2007
The deadline is
April 3 to apply for participation in the McNair Program, a federally
funded, 16-month effort to prepare qualified students for graduate study by
providing a $2,400 stipend, faculty-guided research, seminars and graduate
application assistance. For more information, call 278.2946. Applications

May 5 event benefits
Learning Resource Center, Senior Experience
The Learning
Resource Center and Senior Experience will benefit from a fundraiser at 6
p.m. May 5 at the Fresno County Sportsmen’s Club sponsored by the division
of Student Affairs and the Parents Association. The $40-per-person event has
an Old West theme and will include a barbecue dinner, silent auction and a

Social psychology scholars will speak
at conference April 3
Internationally
recognized scholars in social psychology will reflect on their careers at a
Fresno State-hosted conference April 3 at the Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite.
Among the speakers are Edward Diener, a Fresno State alumnus who teaches at
the University of Illinois and Dr. Aroldo Rodrigues, a member of the Fresno
State psychology faculty.
