Vintage Days ‘06 is April 20-23 at Fresno State
This year’s
Vintage Days includes a turn in the national spotlight as
syndicated radio talk-show host Stephanie Miller broadcasts from
the Satellite Student Union during Day 2 of the four-day event
that begins April 20. Also scheduled are a Casino Night (7-11
p.m. April 20), the Boomtown Carnival, Kids Zone and Crafts
Faire (10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 21-23) and Salsa Night (6:30
p.m.-midnight April 21). Vintage Days annually attracts more
than 50,000 visitors to the Fresno State campus with its blend
of activities, entertainment and food.

Pioneering Westside farmer Jack
Woolf honored by Ag One
Fresno
State’s
Ag One Foundation will recognize Jack Woolf at its Community
Salute award dinner May 12 at the downtown Fresno Convention
Center Exhibit Hall. Woolf, who worked many years managing
ranches of Westside farming giant Russell Giffen, launched his
own ranching and other ag-related businesses as Woolf
Enterprises in 1974, building his business into one of the
area’s biggest in the industry Woolf also has given generously
to the community and the Community Salute will help establish
the Ag One-Jack Woolf Scholarship Endowment Fund to benefit
students seeking a degree in the College of Agricultural
Sciences and Technology.

Jane Addams
statue to be unveiled Thursday
The
campus and the community will get their first look Thursday, April 6, at the
life-sized statue of Jane Addams, the newest sculpture in Fresno State’s
Peace Garden and the first time a woman has been honored there. The bronze
statue of the reformer and Nobel Peace Prize winner is by graduate student
Claudia Nolan. It will join those of Mahatma Gandhi, César Chávez and Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr.

Hispanic Youth Symposium
More
than 150 high school students from
Fresno,
Madera, Kings and Tulare counties will gather Aug. 4-6 at
Fresno
State
for the first Hispanic Youth Symposium in the western United States. The
event, sponsored by the university and the Hispanic College Fund, gives
youth an opportunity to explore their cultural and community roots and
develop skills to help them succeed in college and beyond.
