Health Policy Institute helps produce study of regional air pollution
The Fresno State-based Central Valley Health Policy Institute collaborated with California State University, Fullerton on a study that calculated the annual price of air pollution in the San Joaquin Valley at $3.2 billion. It is the first economic analysis of the region’s air quality. The price estimate considers such factors as lost work time, school absences, medical bills, premature death and reduced productivity resulting from foul air in the eight-county region from Bakersfield to Stockton. First-edition children’s books donated to Arne Nixon Center
The Henry Madden Library’s Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature received 140 books illustrated by Robert Lawson and William Pène Du Bois, valued at more than $35,000. Author, columnist and talk show host Michael Car made the donation. More...

Defending national champ Fresno State has 2 teams in HR Games
Two three-person teams from Fresno State’s Craig School of Business will be in Hawaii Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, to compete in the regional Human Resources Games. Liwpho Saechao, Carey Watt and Amy Williams teamed for second among 11 California State University teams in preliminary competition, while Yinmun Chi, Trisha Pfister and Lisa Martinez formed the fourth-place team. Four teams advanced to the regional competition, the next step to the national HR Games, won by Fresno State last year. 

Fountain ID replace clock tower cards
Anyone who still has an identification card depicting the Clock Tower should visit the Key Card office at the Keats Building, Room 103, for a replacement illustrated with a photo of the fountain. The clock tower ID cards became invalid March 1 and any service provided on that card was transferred to the new ID card, said Steve Martinez, director of
Environmental Health and Safety/Risk Management.

Lehigh math professor schedules Fresno State colloquium
Garth Isaak, a professor at
Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., will explore some fun mathematical connections during a Mathematics Colloquium at 4 p.m. today, April 4, in Alice Peters Auditorium at the University Business Center. Fresno State’s Interdisciplinary Mathematics Lecture Series sponsors the event, whose theme is “When Does x <= a, x >= 0 Have a Solution?”

Workshop will focus on opportunities to enrich workplaces
Fresno State’s Rehabilitation Counseling Program will host a daylong workshop on campus May 5 featuring Denise Bissonnette, a writer, speaker and trainer on enriching workplaces and breaking down barriers to employment. Bissonnette’s workshop topic is “The Art of Creating Opportunity.” More...
