Sophocles' 'Oedipus Rex' goes gospel at Fresno State
The classic Greek play ”Oedipus Rex” gets a gospel treatment in University Theatre’s production of “The Gospel at Colonus” premiering at 8 p.m. May 5 in the John Wright Theatre. Jazz opens CSU Summer Arts starts 8th season
CSU Summer Arts plans 27 public events and 14 student culminations throughout July as the program returns to Fresno State for its eighth straight year. Portis paintings are on display in Lyles Gallery
Artwork by Will Portis will be exhibited through May 19 in the Lyles Gallery in the lobby area of the John Wright Theatre at Fresno State. Portis is a portrait and landscape artist, muralist, commercial and graphic artist, who has a gallery in Fresno. Gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and one hour before curtain for “Gospel at Colonus” (May 5-7 and 9-13). A sample of Portis’ work (at right) is online at www.willportis.com.

Winter break northern India study tour will examine art and culture

Art and design faculty member Joan Sharma will lead a 12-day study trip to northern India to explore art and culture. The trip begins Dec. 26 under sponsorship of Fresno State’s Division of Continuing and Global Education and College of Arts and Humanities and the Fresno Art Museum. Cost is $2,985. French-themed program closes Lorenz Keyboard Concerts series

Pascal Rogé, an award-winning French pianist, will be in the spotlight at 8 p.m. Friday, May 5, in the Fresno State Concert Hall for the finale of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series’ 34th season.
