CSU Summer Arts
schedules plethora of public events

Get
ready for a very cool July with CSU Summer Arts’ eighth straight visit to
Fresno State, where talented students from throughout the California State
University system get intensive training from top people in numerous
cultural arts fields.
There will be 27 public events plus 14 student culminations
available for our pleasure this summer as another group of world-class
artists headquarters on campus for the eighth straight summer of workshops
and performances.
To whet your appetite, here is the lineup for the first week,
which includes a cornucopia of entertainment. Events are at Fresno State
unless otherwise noted:

July
2 – Kickoff concert by jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard at the Tower
Theatre.

July 3 – Films by Paul Zaloom and Tim Lagasse, political
satirists, filmmakers and puppeteers.

July 4 – Illustrated lecture by Patrick Dougherty,
showcasing his larger-than-life sculptures made of natural materials.

July 6 – Solo performance of “Second Skin” by Joan
Schirle, founding member and co-artistic director of Dell'Arte
International.

July 7 – Illustrated lecture by Mark Brest van Kempen,
environmental landscape artist, and performance by Kim Richmond, Kristin
Korb, and the Summer Arts jazz faculty.

July 8 – Puppet theater presentation for mature audiences
by artist, puppeteer and performer Clare Dolan, and a concert by West
African master drummer C.K. Ladzekpo, steel band composer Ray Holman,
Afro-Brazilian/Afro-Cuban masters Mark Lamson and Michael Spiro
and steel pan group Pandemonium.
The events calendar for the 2006 season will be
available mid-May. All events are reasonably priced and include general and
student/seniors rates. Individual, season, and reserved tickets are
available.
