Roundtables answer questions about Fresno State Fresno State President John Welty and university development team members have initiated a series of high-level roundtable discussions with alumni and friends about the future of the university. The roundtables introduce the strategic goals of the university and the relationship of the comprehensive campaign to achieving the strategic plan. So far, there have been meetings in Arizona and in Palm Springs, Visalia and Friant. Each is kept small to encourage dialogue. At the most recent roundtable, in April, Welty responded to questions about service-learning and other community service connections to the campus; medical education; technology and technological training; virtual vs. physical classrooms; and Fresno State’s leadership in the region’s cultural arts. The roundtable also provided Welty an opportunity to talk about ways people can help the university. He told the group that service on advisory committees, making classroom visits and getting involved in the community through programs such as ReadFresno are valuable to Fresno State’s efforts. The goal, Welty told the group, is to build Fresno State into one of the nation’s Top 10 comprehensive regional universities by engaging the community around five campaign themes. The themes are creating a healthier Valley, advancing world-class agriculture, helping the economy grow, celebrating the arts and cultures of the New California and educating our children. Additional roundtables are planned through the spring and summer. For additional information, please go to www.SupportFresnoState.com. |
