Lyles Center opens in Student Rec Center
The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is in its new spacious suite on the second floor of the Student Recreation Center. Ranked eighth among the nation’s universities for its regional and national programs in entrepreneurship, the Lyles Center brings together students, faculty and community members to collaborate on strategies to transform ideas into businesses that add jobs to the economy. Farrar’s ability to connect with students rates top teaching award
 Dr. James Farrar, an associate professor of plant science who is a model of creatively helping students learn, is the 2006 Excellence in Teaching Award winner, the top teaching honor at Fresno State. Dr. Jeri Echeverria, the provost and vice president of academic affairs, also announced honors for nine other exemplary faculty members. A reception honoring this year’s award winners is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. May 11 at the Residence Dining Facility. “It is truly an honor to recognize these outstanding professors for their exceptional contributions and service to our students and to our academic community,” said Echeverria. “I would also like to congratulate the outstanding individuals who were nominated this year, as there were many exceptional and deserving faculty nominated for consideration.” More...

Oregon State horticulture chair is new Fresno State Ag College dean
Dr. Charles Boyer, a biochemical genetics specialist and head of the Oregon State University Department of Horticulture since 1993, was chosen as dean of Fresno State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, effective July 1. The past three years, Boyer has been associate dean and associate director of Oregon State’s Agriculture Experiment Station. Boyer will replace Dr. Daniel P. Bartell, who is returning to teaching after 14 years as dean. More...

Commencement on May 20 will be Fresno State’s 95th
Fresno State’s 95th Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. May 20 in the Save Mart Center. The ceremony is the centerpiece of a week filled with 22 events to mark the end of the academic year. Five of this year’s commencement events are scheduled to be in the Save Mart Center and six will be in the recently opened Student Recreation Center, just west of the arena. More...

2006 Dean's Medalists announced; medals to be presented at Commencement
President John D. Welty will present the prestigious President’s Medal at Fresno State’s commencement ceremony May 20, chosen from among the undergraduate Dean’s Medalists. The ceremony also will recognize graduate Dean’s Medalists, who are completing master’s degrees. The medals recognize outstanding students in each of the university’s schools and colleges of academic discipline and the Division of Student Affairs.
