NCAA ruling credits Fresno State’s efforts to prevent violations
The NCAA accepted penalties that Fresno State imposed on itself last year for men’s basketball rules infractions, noted the university’s changes in policies and procedures to prevent recurrence and added three years’ probation (until April 2010). Since the violations came to light, all members of the previous coaching staff were replaced, a new athletic director and compliance expert hired and a full compliance review conducted by an outside consultant. Wiggins named women's head baskteball coach
After more than a season as interim coach, Adrian Wiggins was appointed head coach of Fresno State’s women’s basketball team, hoping to build off a 24-8 season and Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearance in 2005-6. Since taking the reins late in the 2004-5 season, Wiggins has forged a 31-12 record at Fresno State and is 71-29 overall as a coach at the college level.  More...

Six Bulldogs earn WAC All-Academic awards
Five members of the Fresno State women’s basketball team and one men’s team member won Western Athletic Conference’s All-Academic Team honors. Joining sophomore forward Hector Hernandez of the men’s team are women’s basketball student-athletes Toni Atherley and Faith Probst, both seniors, junior Chantella Perera and sophomores Kendra Walker-Roche and Erica Henry. To be eligible for recognition, student-athletes must have at least a 3.0 grade-point average and play in at least half their team’s games.

Clovis Hall of Fame honors Bulldog coaches Pat Hill and John Baxter
Fresno State football head coach Pat Hill (left photo) and associate head coach John Baxter will be recognized as Citizens of the Year at the Clovis Hall of Fame and Community Awards program May 19. The two will be honored for their exemplary contributions to the community, especially to young people. Hill is recognized for his success as Fresno State’s head coach for nine seasons, including a best-in-the-West seven straight postseason bowl appearances. Baxter is recognized not only for developing special teams and wide receivers, but for his Academic Game Plan that helps students succeed in the classroom as well.

Johnson joins former Florida coach as Bulldogs soccer assistant
Christine Johnson, who played for Fresno State soccer head coach Steve Springthorpe when he was an assistant at Florida, was hired as a Bulldog assistant coach. She comes to Fresno State from Lone Tree, Colo., where she was staff coach for the Douglas County Soccer Association and coached youth teams. More...

Former softball stars Berg, Scott on NCAA anniversary team
Former Bulldog All-Americans Laura Berg (left photo) and Amanda Scott were chosen as members of the NCAA’s Division I Softball 25th Anniversary Team. Berg, who is Fresno State assistant coach, and Scott, who plays professionally and is pitching coach at Iowa, each participated in three NCAA Women’s College World Series and both on the 1998 team when Fresno State won the championship. Golf tournament will benefit Ag One Foundation
The 35th annual Turf Day Golf Classic tees off Friday, May 5, at Madera Golf and Country Club as members of the agricultural industry, Fresno State alumni and friends compete in a fundraiser for the Ag One Foundation. The field is limited to 144 golfers, who pay $125 each for lunch, golf, social hour, dinner and the opportunity to win prizes. Proceeds benefit Ag One, which promotes and supports the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. For more information, please call 278.4266.

Bulldog Shop Golf Tourney scheduled June 26
The fifth annual Bulldog Shop Golf Tournament takes over Fig Garden Golf Course on June 26. Lunch precedes a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Blaine Kelley Memorial Fund, named for the former manager of the Bulldog Shop who died three years ago this September.
