The Delta Water Summit at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Satellite Student Union at Fresno State  will feature speakers offering multiple perspectives on how to address Bay-Delta Estuary water, infrastructure and environmental issues.

Top water leaders from around California and the nation will participate. Gov. Edmund Brown was invited to present his water supply vision for California but organizers say his participation is not yet confirmed.

The summit will bring together a number of elected officials, legislators, high level policy, technical and legislative representatives from the state and federal governments as well as key water agencies and environmental interests to present, discuss and answer questions through a series of moderated panels.

Guests include the commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Michael Connor, Deputy Resources Secretary Gerald Meral, Delta Stewardship Council Member Gloria Gray and Sunne McPeak of the Delta Vision Foundation.

Fresno State president Dr. Joseph I. Castro will welcome participants at the start of the summit. Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno), California Latino Water Coalition Central Valley co-chairman, will deliver closing remarks at 12:20 p.m.

Mario Santoyo, California Latino Water Coalition Executive Director and one of the forum’s organizers, said half of each panel discussion will be dedicated to audience questions, allowing an opportunity for residents and interested individuals to engage with leaders in the field.

“Even in the Central Valley, ground zero for water supply shortages and economic impacts due to Delta pumping restrictions, chances are that most have felt or heard of the Delta’s problems but really do not understand much about the details,” Santoyo said.

The summit’s major partners include the California Latino Water Coalition, KMPH-TV, Univision, the Fresno Bee and Fresno State.

Summit support also comes from the State of California and two Fresno State colleges – the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and the College of Social Sciences.

Co-sponsors include the Association of 2 California Water Agencies, Clean Water and Jobs for California, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Friant Water Authority, Westlands Water District, the San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority, Fresno Farm Bureau, Nisei Farmers League, California Farm Water Coalition, California Water Alliance, Tulare Lake Basin Water Storage District and Granville Homes.

Free parking is available in green and yellow designated areas (Lot P on Maple and Bartow offers the closest access to the Satellite Student Union).
