Fresno State student Doris Michue, chosen for the 2013 ACI Cork Award of Excellence, will speak at the Viticulture and Enology Seminar Series noon-12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Enology Building, room 102.
Michue, of Bakersfield, is studying for a Certificate in Enology. She is also the vice president of the Viticulture Club at Fresno State.
As the 2013 ACI Cork Award of Excellence recipient, Michue received a weeklong all-expenses paid trip from ACI Cork (Alvaro Coelho & Irmaos) to travel with company representatives June 21 – June 28 to learn about cork production in Portugal.
Her topic of discussion at the seminar Wednesday will be “The Cork Industry in Portugal.” The free public lecture series is presented by the Department of Viticulture and Enology every Wednesday at noon throughout the fall 2013 semester.
Michue said her observations of Portugal’s cork production, winemaking practices and styles is just the tip of the iceberg and she is excited to share her new knowledge with the rest of Fresno State’s students, faculty and staff.
“Experiencing Portugal from a cultural lens is nothing less than exciting,” Michue said.
ACI Cork is one of the world’s largest producers of natural cork wine stoppers and was founded in 1996 by three brothers with the combined experience of over 80 years in the cork industry.
