electric vehicle enthusiasts for a “Grand Plug-In,” celebrating the station’s official opening.

Located west of the Save Mart Center in parking Lot P2 (near the intersection of Woodrow Avenue and Matoian Way) the station is open to the public and costs a flat rate of $1 per hour to charge. The station features four “Level 2” stalls (two- to
three-hour charging) and two “Level 3” stalls (20- to 30-minute charging).

“Fresno State is moving the San Joaquin Valley toward a greener future,” said Bob Boyd, Fresno State’s associate vice president for facilities management. “Building this charging station supports current electric vehicle owners, encourages faster growth by making it convenient and demonstrates Fresno State’s environmental leadership.”

Construction of the station was financed by a $397,000 grant from the California Energy Commission. Project lead Devon Fullner of Fresno State’s facilities planning office worked with a team that included five Fresno State students. “The students were part of every aspect of the project. These five individuals were truly the driving force behind this project,” he said.

The addition of a major charging station on campus gives charging options to members of the campus community, travelers passing through the region and electric vehicle owners throughout the Valley. “When Campus Pointe opens, electric vehicle owners can see a movie, do some shopping or grab a bite to eat while they charge their cars,” Fullner said.

Local BMW, Chevy, Fiat, Ford and Nissan dealers brought electric and hybrid vehicles for display at the Grand Plug-In, demonstrating the growing options available for drivers.
