The Fresno State Winery’s biggest event of the semester, the Taste of Spring, will be open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the winery (2360 E. Barstow Ave.).

Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for students, faculty and Fresno State Wine Club members.

Guests can visit with students from the Fresno State Viticulture and Enology Department who will be starting their careers in winemaking and related fields upon graduation in May.

“This event is the best chance that the public has to meet and talk to our graduating class of new winemakers,” said Kevin Smith, the winery’s marketing director. “Many will go on to become notable players in the wine industry throughout the state, country and world. We’ll be pairing finger foods with Fresno State wines, hosting student-led winery tours and barrel tastings and enjoying live music on the lawn overlooking the Fresno State vineyards. Along with some fun lawn games, it will be a stellar afternoon.”

Taste of Spring guests will also be the first to taste several new student-produced wines, including the 2011 Saviez Syrah, 2012 Tempranillo, 2012 Sangiovese and 2012 Zinfandel. The white wines being featured will include 2013 Pinot Gris, 2013 White Zinfandel and the 2013 SJ Chardonnay.
