Dr. Oliver Wang, a sociologist at California State University, Long Beach, will share his findings on the Bay Area’s Filipino-American DJ scene from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec.6, in the Industrial Tech Building (Room 294).

The Filipino-American mobile DJ scene began in the late 1970s and lasted through the early 1990s. Despite being ignored by the rest of the music industry and mainstream society, hundreds of DJ crews and thousands of participants built the foundation that led Filipino-American DJs to become amongst the best in the world by the 1990s.

The free event is sponsored by Asian American Studies, Asian Faculty and Staff Association and Associated Students, Inc. INFO: Professor Jenny Banh at jenbanh@mail.fresnostate.edu
