Fresno State’s national and state flags will be posted at half-staff on Tuesday, May 14, the date of the funeral mass for  Fabiola “Fabby” Alvarez de Gasca, a longtime staff member in the College of Social Sciences who died of cancer on May 5. Fabby was a U.S. Veteran and was a dedicated member of the university. She gave 20 years of exemplary service in different departments on campus and in different capacities.

She graduated from the Craig School of Business at Fresno State in the fall of 1997 and began working in the Chicano and Latin American Studies Department in January 1998. In the College of Social Sciences, she served as an Administrative Support Coordinator in the College of Social Sciences’ Development Office, an ASC in the CLAS department, to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and as an assistant to the Dean in the College of Social Sciences.

She became an analyst in the College of Social Sciences Dean’s Office in July 2014 and retired in 2018.  She survived by her husband, Antonio Gasca and her sons Antonio, 15 and Ulises, 12. The Gasca Alvarez family will greet friends and loved ones from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 13, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with a rosary at 7 p.m. A mass will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
