The Community Service Scholarship Gala will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, at California State University, Fresno’s Residence Dining Facility from 6 to 11 p.m.
Co-sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and Career Services, the gala’s proceeds benefit the Community Service Scholarship Endowment, said Paul DeRuosi, assistant to the vice president of Student Affairs and development officer.
The Community Service Scholarship Program provides students the opportunity to perform service-related assignments with a wide variety of nonprofit/public service agencies throughout the greater Fresno area.
The students earn three units of academic credit and financial scholarships of up to $1,000
through the program, which has placed nearly 400 students since it began in 1990, DeRuosi said.
“Collectively, these students have given back more than 70,000 hours in human resources to the community through these organizations,” he said.
The Community Service Scholarship Endowment was launched with the support of private funds after Marc Radin, longtime community supporter and local entrepreneur, proposed the idea to the university as a way to help both students and the community, DeRuosi said.
With gala proceeds and other contributions to the endowment, they are working to make the Community Service Scholarship program permanent at Fresno State.
