Congressman Cal Dooley, California District 20, will speak at the College Assistance Migrant Program’s 13th Annual Migrant Students Recognition Program on Saturday, May 8, at California State University, Fresno.

The program, at 6:30 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union, will honor 88 students this year for their academic achievements, community service

achievements, and leadership aptitudes, said Raul Moreno, CAMP director. Eight students earned a 4.0 GPA during the fall 1998 semester with a total of 59 students earning a 3.0 or better GPA.

Moreno also announced that six CAMP students have earned a national internship with the Student Action for Farmworkers (SAF) program. He said the placements will be in North Carolina where students will be involved in educational, health, and social services for migrant farmworkers.

Parents will also be honored “for providing much needed emotional support,” Moreno said.

Tickets for the dinner program at $10 per person are available through Friday, May 7. For more information, call (559) 278-1787.
