Applying for any of more than a thousand scholarships at California State University, Fresno is now easier than ever thanks to their availability online for the first time.

Beginning Sept. 1 and continuing through Nov. 17, web site scholarship applications will be accepted from students who are planning to attend Fresno State in the fall of 2001. The URL is http://studentaffairs.csufresno.edu/financial_aid/

More than $1 million in scholarships is available for students who have a high level of academic achievement. Other factors for consideration may include a history of leadership, as well as other extracurricular activities indicating school and community involvement.

The new “paper-less application” may be accessed from any on-line computer, reports Bernie Vinovrski, associate vice president of enrollment services.

He said the online system would simplify the scholarship application process for new and continuing students. In the past, students were required to obtain a hard copy of the application from their high school counselor or by physically visiting the scholarship office here. They then had to manually type in the information and mail or hand carry it back to the university.

“By putting this information online, and by linking it to other financial aid opportunities, students will have a convenient, one-stop opportunity to apply for the best possible scholarship and financial aid package available at Fresno State,” Vinovrski said.

Besides scholarships, Fresno State also provides more than $70 million in annual federal and state financial aid to over ten thousand students. Information and applications regarding these programs can also be found on this web site.
