Marcus Asay has been named director of the Fresno County Workforce Investment Board’s new employment training one-stop project that was awarded to the Central California Center for Health and Human Services at California State University, Fresno during the summer.
Dr. Ben Cuellar, dean of Fresno State’s College of Health and Human Sciences, made the formal announcement this week for the one-stop project, that was established under the federal Workforce Investment Act and granted to the institute during the summer.
The project works with area public and private agencies to provide employment, training and business services in Fresno County through a one-stop system with five sites: Kerman, Mendota, Reedley, Sanger and Fresno. Formerly known as Fresno Works, the project will receive a new name and a permanent headquarters at the board’s Sept. 13 meeting.
Asay is temporarily working out of the Central California Center for Health and Human Services, which is a program established by Fresno State in 1998 to provide research, evaluation and training services targeted at the health and social welfare needs of the ethnically and socioeconomically diverse populations living in Central California and the Southwest. The institute achieves its aims by developing partnerships with local agencies and organizations.
Asay recently served as associate director for Community Medical Foundation where he oversaw major gifts and annual fund programs including the management of marketing and public relations.
With more than 20 years of executive business experience, Asay’s background includes service in the areas of community, corporate, economic development, education, research and training as well as entrepreneurial opportunities, said Cuellar.
“Mr. Asay brings an entrepreneurial and development approach to the One-Stop,” Cuellar said. “He has worked with many civic and business leaders to promote a more economic viable community.”
Asay has assisted in the start-up of three companies nationally: GTE Airfone, Contel Cellular and American Banking.
His expertise also includes teaching international business and finance, business development, entrepreneurial management, and marketing. His professional presentations throughout the United States have focused on goal stewardship administration, finance and practice and the art of fundraising.
He is a member of the National Society of Fundraising Executives, the American Marketing Association, the Society for the Advancement of Management and the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy.
Asay has a masters in business administration from the American Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix, Arizona, and a bachelor of science in business and public administration from California State University, Sacramento.
