Four California State University, Fresno student-produced wines — some already
winners of state fair medals last summer — have scored worldwide with honors at the 11th Annual Jerry Mead 2001 New World International Wine Competition recently in Claremenot.
Fresno State winemaster Ken Fugelsang and his enology students will present the wines and more details at a special presentation on campus Satruday. on April 29 , Fugelsandgf will attend the “Jerry D. Mead Inland Empire Wine Extravaganza, Gold Medal
Showcase and Auction” in Ontario to formally receive the medals.
The winning wines were:
• The Muscato 2000 from the John Diener Vineyard in California, which won two honors: a Gold Medal and BEST OF CLASS.
• The Barbera 1999, from Duarte Linden Hills Vineyard in California, won a Silver
Medal, as did the White Zinfandel 2000 from grapes grown on the Fresno State campus.
• California Sunshine White Table Wine 1999 won a Bronze Medal.
The Feb. 11 competition was open to wines produced anywhere in the “New World” including all of North America, Central America, and South America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
