Session on future of the Internet is March 9 at library

Mike Conner, president of MCIC, Mass Communication Internet Concept, will discuss the Internet and its future on Friday, March 9, at 6 p.m. in the Solarium of the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno. The Friends of the Madden Library sponsor the program. Conner will trace the history of the Internet from its origins in the 1950s with the communications needs of physicists and the military through its development into the information super highway of today. He will discuss new technology that allows consumers to track their orders online or create customized news services to keep them updated on their favorite author’s latest release or weather patterns at their vacation destination. Future developments will be considered, such as “smart” portable devices and new tools to mine the “deep Web.” A reception will be at 6 p.m. and the program is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to members, $2 for non-members and $1 for students. A sign language interpreter will be provided upon advance request. Reservations are required: 278-2403.
