Six new department chairs and a coordinator have been named at California State University, Fresno, announced Dr. Michael Ortiz, provost and vice president of academic affairs.

Three associate deans have also been assigned. Chairs serve at the pleasure of President John D. Welty for a normal term of four (4) years. Associate deans serve at the pleasure of the President.

The chairs and their departments are:

Dr. Earl Bowerman, Interim, Plant Science

Lt. Col. Berrett Larwin, Military Science

Professor Donald Freed, Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies

Dr. Thomas Mallory, Interim, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Dr. Larry Cusick. Mathematics

Professor Juan Felipe Herrera, Chicano and Latin American Studies

Dr. Katherine Adams, Interim Coordinator, Women’s Studies.

Named associate deans were Dr. Walter Loscutoff, College of Engineering and Computer Science; Dr. Luz Gonzalez, College of Social Sciences; and Karen Kinney, associate university librarian.

Earlier this summer, Gary Wilson was named director of Facilities and Planning and Robert Slobodian was appointed director of the Interdisciplinary Spatial Information Systems (ISIS) Center.
