Joe Broussard, regional director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and former Bulldogs football player, will speak at the 22nd Annual African American Student Recruitment Conference at California State University, Fresno on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The fellowship is the largest interdenominational, school-based, Christian sports organization in America.
The conference, sponsored by the University Outreach Services, will begin at the Satellite Student Union at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. with various sessions held throughout campus.
The event is designed to motivate middle school, high school and community college students to consider higher education.
Registration is at 8 a.m. with the opening session at 9 a.m. Workshops will be held at 10 a.m. with the closing session at 11 a.m. A college/resource fair, and a comedy show by comedian Feather Da Wyz will be presented during a free lunch at noon.
Broussard, 37, graduated from Fresno State in 1988 with a degree in finance. He attended Crespi High School in Encino where he earned All-Valley honors in football and All-League in baseball before playing quarterback at L.A. Pierce College in Woodlands Hills in 1984-85.
At Fresno State he played fullback in the 1986-87 season.
His ministry career began as pastor of College Ministries at Evangelical Free Church of Fresno from 1988 to 1998.
He has been with Fellowship of Christian Athletes full-time since Jan. 1, 1999, currently serving as the Northern California/Nevada regional director.
