The history of Fresno State is going into a time capsule with a 3,200-pound Bulldog guarding the special information for the next 50 years. The Bulldog Foundation will

coordinate the placement of 10 time capsule boxes in the base of the Bronze Bulldog in the Save Mart Center at Fresno State at 12:15 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27. The Bulldog statue is located in the southeast foyer of the Save Mart Center.

The 10 time capsule boxes contain memorabilia from The Bulldog Foundation, the Women’s Bulldog Foundation, Fresno State students, administration, alumni, athletics and academics, as well as the history of building the Save Mart Center.

One box will contain hundreds of business cards from Bulldog Foundation members, as well as the recently published 50-year history book on foundation, “The Team Behind the Teams.”

The boxes will remain in the base of the Bronze Bulldog for 50 years before the time capsule is reopened in 2054.

Representatives of each time capsule box, including university President John D. Welty and Bulldog Foundation President Lee Lockhart, will briefly state what is contained in each box before placing it in the base of the statue.

Media interviews will be available following the ceremony. Parking is available in the media lot at the northwest corner of Chestnut and Shaw, near the Shehadey Tower.

The Bulldog Foundation organized funding for not only the Bulldog statute but also for all the team display cases found on both levels of the Save Mart Center. The Bronze Bulldog is 7 feet high and wide, 9 feet long and with the base weighs over 2 tons.
