The 16th Annual Hmong Higher Education Conference will be held at California State University, Fresno on Saturday, March 20, to motivate students to pursue higher education and introduce them to issues pertaining to the Hmong community.

The conference, which will be held at the Satellite Student Union from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will feature keynote speakers Lee Yang and Bao Moua, three workshops, lunch and an open mic evaluation.

The conference, which is being sponsored by the Hmong Student Association and the University Outreach Services on campus, was first held in 1988 to encourage younger generations of Hmong students to continue with their studies, said Xiong Her, conference chair.

Now in its 16th year and with the support of many businesses, the conference is held free of charge and offers a variety of workshops on topics ranging from how to obtain college admission to tips on a successful college life, Her added.

The Hmong Student Association (HmSA), which was formed in 1984, has 19 officers and more than 70 members.
