The Rimsky-Korsakov quartet was formed in 1939, and has always drawn highly successful players from various St.Petersburg orchestras. The best traditions of the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet have been carried on by its current group: Mikhail

Bondarev (violin), Ekaterina Belisova (violin), Alexey Popov (viola), and Stanislav Lyamin (cello). All of the members of the quartet graduated from St. Petersburg Music Conservatoire, which has produced a considerable number of talented musicians and composers. Having such a significant background has enabled the quartet to cover a wide repertoire of familiar and more unusual pieces.

Committed to bringing chamber music to as wide an audience as possible, the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet offers an interesting combination of instrumental chamber works. Although the main focus of musical works has been done on Russian chamber music, as well as a traditional repertoire, the quartet takes an interest in contemporary composers.

The Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet performs regularly in Russia and widely in many European countries, such as Germany, Italy, Malta, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Finland. Engagements abroad have included extended tours and performing in various musical festivals alongside world-famous musicians and leading orchestras. The quartet has a number of CD releases on Russian, German, French and U.S. recording labels.
