The California State University, Fresno Wind Ensemble, conducted by Director of Bands Dr. Lawrence R. Sutherland, will present the Fifth Annual Concerto Concert featuring outstanding student soloists from the ensemble on Tuesday, May 11.

The concert will be held in the Concert Hall of the New Music Building and will start at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door and are $6, $4 for students.

Pieces to be performed include: Carnival of Venice by Giulio Briccialdi with Ms. Emily Willingham, Flute; Ballad by Alfred Reed with Christine Reza on Alto Saxophone; and Concertino for Three Brass by Jerry Bilik with Stephen Clements, Trumpet, Bryan Raya,

Trombone and Christopher Whiteman on Tuba. Concerto for Trumpet by Alexander Arutiunian will feature Rob Morgan.

The Wind Ensemble has just returned from a performance for the College Band Directors National Association at the University of Nevada-Reno and performances for the 1st Annual New Orleans Music Festival. They hosted the 24th Annual Collegiate Wind Band Festival at Fresno State on March 21 and 22. The ensemble also performed for the meeting of the university’s President and Board of Trustee’s on March 16.

The Ritchie Clendenin “Most Inspirational Musician” award will be given at the concert to student voted on by the Ensemble.

This concert also marks the 35th year Dr. Sutherland has conducted the Wind Ensemble.
