On Wednesday, April 28 the California State University, Fresno Department of Music

presents The President’s Quintet in concert at 8 p.m. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall on campus.

The President’s Quintet is comprised of Christina Bellotta, flute; James Gill, oboe; Alicia Ramos, clarinet; Amy Vaillancourt-Sals, horn; and Dalene Herrera, bassoon, and is under the direction of Dr. Teresa Beaman.

Works to be performed will be announced, Admission to this event is free.

The President’s Quintet of California State University, Fresno, is a scholarship woodwind ensemble whose members are selected by audition. Scholarship monies are funded through the office of the Fresno State president. In previous years, this outstanding ensemble has toured Europe, Asia, and California. Highlights of the Quintets’ previous accomplishments include a summer study tour of Italy and an invitation to perform for the Secretary of State, James Baker and California Governor, George Deukmejian, at the Centennial ceremonies of Yosemite National Park in October 1991. Funding for tours and commissions is provided in large part by the Associated Students Inc., as well as by income generated from concert receipts and the generous donations of patrons. The Quintet was founded in 1978 and was directed by John R. Heard. The Quintet was passed on to Dr. James H. Winter in 1982, and to Dr. Jose A. Diaz in 1987. Flute professor, Dr. Teresa Beaman, presently directs the ensemble.

Christina Bellotta (flute) is a sophomore flute performance major at Fresno State, where she studies with Dr. Teresa Beaman. She graduated from Bakersfield High School and has

participated in many honor ensembles including the first ever CMEA All State Honor Band. She is currently the Vice-President of Fresno State’s chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon.

James Gill (oboe) is a sophomore music performance major at Fresno State, where he studies with Dr. José Diaz. He graduated from California High School in San Ramon. He has played with the Oakland Youth Orchestra, and now he occasionally substitutes in the Tulare County Symphony.

Alicia Ramos (clarinet) is a senior composition major at Fresno State. She is a member of the Smittcamp Family Honors College and is a McNair Scholar. She graduated from Madera High School and played in the FMCMEA Honor Band, State Honor Band, and has performed with the Mid-America National Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall.

Amy Vaillancourt-Sals (horn) is a senior music education major at Fresno State, where she studies with Dr. Thomas Hiebert. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School and was the principal horn player for the Santa Cruz Youth Symphony. Amy is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, the academic honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, and the honorary music sorority,

Tau Beta Sigma.

Dalene Herrera (bassoon) is a sophomore at Fresno State where she is a double major in Political Science and Music Performance. She studies bassoon with Larry Gardner. She graduated from Yosemite High School and played in the Fresno Madera County Honor Band and Honor Orchestra. She was a member of the Fresno Youth Orchestra for two years and toured with them in Europe.
