Starting Monday, May 24, summer hours of operation for all offices at California State University, Fresno will be from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. The schedule will continue through Aug. 13.

Along with summer hours, an Energy Savings Bulldogs team will return to work. The team of four specially-trained students will visit campus buildings and offices to spot ways to reduce energy consumption,

The 7 a,m. starting time and the Energy Saving Bulldogs program were instituted three years ago as energy-saving measures during the state’s energy crisis. The campus was able to generate significant energy and financial savings, and the same is expected this year.

The Energy Saving Bulldogs will work in teams from 10 a,m. to 10 p.m., said Dick Smith, director of Utility Management. The students will check campus buildings, looking for opportunities to reduce energy consumption, turning off unused lights and encouraging the use of natural daylight where available.

Team members will answer questions and offer tips on how to reduce energy use at work and at home, The students will wear special shirts to make them easily identifiable and will have brochures with energy-saving information to share with staff, faculty and students.

NOTE TO MEDIA: Please remember that during the summer, most faculty members are on vacation and difficult to locate on short notice. Also, the University Relations office will observe the 7-3:30 summer hours along with the rest of the campus, so whenever possible please plan your media requests to coincide with our working hours.

After 3:30 p.m., Shirley Armbruster and Tom Uribes will be available by cell phone for urgent media calls.
