Dr. Stanley C. Finney, a renowned earth scientist, will present the 2004 Paleontological Society Distinguished Lecture at Fresno State as part of the spring semester’s Environmental Science Seminar Series on Tuesday, May 4 at 5 p.m.

Finney, a professor at California State University, Long Beach and member of the Paleontological Society, will deliver a lecture titled, “Species Diversification during a Mass Extinction- Graptolites during Late Ordovician,” in the Smittcamp Alumni House.

Finney is an authority in the application of graptolite biostratigraphy to regional and global geologic problems and his work is held in high regard, said Dr. John Suen, chair of Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, a co-sponsor of the event.

The free lecture is the fourth and last of the Environmental Science Seminar Series, which features distinguished speakers from several areas in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
