Writing students will be honored and have the opportunity to read their work at the Masters of Fine Arts Convocation and Awards Ceremony Thursday, May 13.

The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Alice Peters Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

Gerald Lawrence will receive the California State University, Fresno award for Creative Nonfiction for his piece titled “Fish Creek.”

Ryan Frost will receive the California State University, Fresno award for Fiction for his piece titled “Small World.” Honorable mentions for the fiction award are Amber Folland for “The History of Girls” and Chris Houston for “Enclosures.”

The Ernest Trejo Award for graduate students will be awarded to Vuong Vu for “Beanstalk” and “Three Love Dreams.” Honorable mentions are Mike Maniquiz for “The Birds” and Megan Bohigian for “My Husband Sleeps.”

The Larry Levis Award for Poetry for undergraduate students will be awarded to Tony Garcia for “McDonald’s” and “Jalisco Rose.” Honorable mentions are Irene Dela Vega for “The Taste of Mangos” and Ria Williams for “Death of a Vagina.”
