Dr. Brent Auernheimer Named Director of Digital Campus

Dr. Brent Auernheimer has been named director of Digital Campus, the technological center of California State University, Fresno.

Auernheimer has been interim director since May 2003 and has led the expansion of Digital Campus to its current state of serving approximately 650 faculty and 17,000 students who participate in online courses.

Digital Campus serves students by providing material that complements their varying learning styles with state-of-the-art information and academic technology. It also serves the faculty of Fresno State by providing assistance in creating and teaching online courses on the Blackboard system that are dynamic and interactive. Digital campus also provides the campus technical help desk services.

Auernheimer’s scholarly expertise is in software engineering, human-computer interactions and Web-based education. He has taught innovative Web-based courses at Fresno State and at the University of Hawaii, has published 17 articles on Web-based instruction, and has been directing the Title V funded Fast Forward program for preparing underrepresented rural high school seniors for English and math placement exams.

In addition, he has received a total of five summer research fellowships from the Associated Western Universities and the American Society for Engineering Education for research at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Kennedy Space Center.

He was also co-founder of Oak Grove Systems, Inc., a company founded to commercialize workflow software developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
