The Ag One Foundation at California State University, Fresno will recognize Virgil E. Rasmussen at the Ag One Community Salute awards dinner on April 8 at the Fresno Convention Center New Exhibit Hall, 848 M St. in downtown Fresno.

Rasmussen, head of Ballantine Produce Co., will be honored for his long and devoted service to California agriculture and his lifelong dedication to the community.

As one of the founding directors of the Ag One Foundation, Rasmussen and other supporters had a goal 26 years ago to establish a foundation that would benefit, promote and support the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and its programs.

The Ag One Endowment Fund was launched and over the years has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships and grants to some 2,400 students.

Rasmussen will be the 10th Community Salute honoree since the event was established in 1987. The Community Salute is a biannual event that honors extraordinary individuals for their service to agriculture and commitment to the community.

Ballantine Produce Co. is one of California’s largest and most respected packers of California tree fruit and grapes. In addition to farming substantial acreage, the company also runs packing houses and cold storage plants, and markets the fruit worldwide. Over the years, Rasmussen has served on numerous industry boards.

The awards dinner is open to the public. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and $750 for a table of 10. For ticket information, contact the Ag One Foundation at (559) 278-4266.

Proceeds from the event will be added to the Ag One — Virgil E. Rasmussen Scholarship Endowment Fund to benefit students pursuing a degree in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.
