Five local choirs will join forces on Monday, March 6, for “How Can I Keep from Singing? A Benefit Concert for the Choirs of the University of New Orleans.”

The 7:30 p.m. concert will be held in the California State University, Fresno Concert Hall in the Music Building.

Featured choirs will be City Singers and Concert Choir from Fresno City College, directed by Julie Dana; Gibson Elementary Gold Note Choir, directed by Linda Cantu; and the Fresno State Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Anna Hamre.

Tara Melvin, a University of New Orleans music student, came to Fresno State after Hurricane Katrina closed down her program in New Orleans. She has returned to UNO, but she found the choir’s facility, music and equipment seriously impaired by the devastation. The Fresno choirs are donating all proceeds from this performance to the UNO choral program.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Prices are $7 general admission, $6 faculty and senior citizens, $5 students. For more information, call 559.278.2539.
