Mark Aydelotte, associate vice president for University Communications at California State University, Fresno, has been named to a national educational advisory panel.

Susan Chilcott, director of communications for the national organization, named Aydelotte to the Advisory Council on Communications and Public Affairs of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

AASCU represents more than 400 public colleges, universities and systems of higher education throughout the United States and its territories. AASCU schools enroll more than 3 million

students or 55 percent of the enrollment at all public four-year institutions. Fresno State President John D. Welty is 2006 chair of the association.

The Advisory Council on Communications and Public Affairs advises and supports the Division of Communications in its work to advance the association’s purpose of developing and promoting a clearer, proactive image of and message about AASCU member institutions. Aydelotte was recommended for the position by the California State University Chancellor’s Office.

Council members are chief communications officers from member institutions. The council assists AASCU’s director of communications by offering campus and system-based perspectives on the effectiveness of the association’s public affairs and marketing programs, and by providing leadership for and encouraging member support of AASCU’s communications initiatives.

Aydelotte, a Fresno State alumnus, has headed communications and public affairs at Fresno State since 2000. He has held communications positions in higher education for 26 years, including 14 years with the University of California’s Office of the President.
