Several internationally recognized scholars in social psychology participating in a Fresno State-sponsored conference are available for interviews on April 2-4.

The conference, “Career Journeys in Social Psychology: Looking Back to Inspire the Future,” will be held April 3 at Tenaya Lodge near Yosemite.

Robert Cialdini of Arizona State University, who is an expert in the fields of persuasion, compliance and negotiation.

Edward Diener, an alumnus of Fresno State and professor of psychology at the University of Illinois. His research includes subjective well-being and temperament and personality influences. He was called “Dr. Happiness” by Time magazine in January 2005. He is the editor of the Journal of Happiness Studies and author of 180 publications.

Alice Eagly of Northwestern University, who researches the psychology of gender and the psychology of attitudes, especially attitude change and structure.

Aroldo Rodrigues of Fresno State. He won the 1999 Provost’s Outstanding Faculty Award. His interests are attribution, consistency theories, social power and distributive justice.

Robert Rosenthal of the University of California, Riverside. His research centers on the psychology of interpersonal expectations and the role of self-fulfilling prophecy in everyday life and laboratory situations.

Shelley Taylor of the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research in health psychology has focused on social relationships, stress, self-regulation and coping.

Harry Triandis of the University of Illinois studies links of attitudes, norms, roles and other elements of subjective culture to behavior in different kinds of cultures.

Bernard Weiner of the University of California, Los Angeles. He researches attribution theory, emotions, responsibility judgments, impression management, help giving, achievement motivation, reactions to stigmatized and theories of punishment.

The conference is sponsored by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Fresno State, the College of Science and Mathematics and the Department of Psychology.
