The host of the Discovery Channel’s “Unsolved History” program will visit California State University, Fresno, on Saturday, April 29, to deliver the keynote address at an annual interdisciplinary conference.

Historian and national media personality Daniel Martinez will explore the relationship between national myths and histories in his 6 p.m. speech. His appearance will be the highlight of the 8th annual Students of English Studies Interdisciplinary Student Conference from April 28-30. This year’s theme is “Spinning the World: Myths and Legends.”

The free event is open to the public and will be held in the Alice Peters Auditorium, 5245 N. Backer Ave., inside the Peters Business Building. A book signing will follow.

Martinez is currently chief historian of the USS Arizona Memorial, in addition to his role as historian-in-chief and host of “Unsolved History.” Martinez has acted as consultant on various media productions about history, and recently co-authored the book “Kimmel, Short & Pearl Harbor: The Final Report Revealed,” from Naval Institute Press.

A native of Southern California, Martinez attended California State University, Dominguez Hills to pursue a bachelor’s degree in history. He is completing a master’s degree in public history.

Conference cohosts are the Students of English Studies Association and the Interdisciplinary Student Conference committee. Additional support for the keynote event is provided by the College of Arts and Humanities, the English Department and Associated Students.
