Jason Melgoza, a Fresno State art major from Selma, is one of two winners nationwide of the second annual Carnegie Council 2007 Graphics Contest. The distinction earned him a $500 prize.

Melgoza’s creation, “Ice Cream Melts,” shows the earth melting atop a sugar cone. It was selected from entries submitted from seven colleges and universities.

“This design was inspired by all the global warming news floating around the media,” Melgoza wrote in his description of the graphic. “I wanted people to look at this and get a sense of fear of what is happening right now. Our home is melting away like ice cream on a hot summer day.”

The New York-based Carnegie Council is a nonpartisan foreign policy think tank that promotes ethical leadership on issues of war, peace, religion in politics and global social justice. It was formed by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1914 to work toward world peace.
