The CSU Summer Arts program celebrates its 23rd anniversary this June and July with a diverse group of courses taught by experts in dance, theatre, creative writing, visual arts and more. A course catalog of this summer’s offerings is available.

Following a course on art and painting in Florence, Italy, the program moves to California State University, Fresno for two series of two-week courses and public performances and exhibitions. The courses, which begin June 29, are taught by master teachers and their students. CSU Summer Arts has been held at Fresno State since 1999 and is hosted by the College of Arts and Humanities.

The 2008 guest artist-instructor list includes dancers with New York’s Urban Bush Women; actors from famed acting companies Steppenwolf and The Second City; flamenco guitarist Juan Serrano; the Kronos Quartet; gospel great Edwin Hawkins; and David Shiner, the clown of Cirque du Soleil fame.

Seventeen courses will be available this year – 16 at Fresno State. Each two-week course culminates in student presentations that are open to the public at no charge.

Students can earn three to six transferable units and should consider applying for scholarships, if they are eligible.
