Gospel music and food are the main attractions Feb. 17, when California State University, Fresno’s College of Arts and Humanities and the CSU Summer Arts program combine to raise money for scholarships with an All- You-Can-Eat Soul Food Feast.

The fundraiser, which also celebrates African Peoples History Month, is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Clovis Memorial District Building, 453 Hughes Ave., in Clovis (a block east of Clovis Avenue and north of Fifth Street). The cost is $50 per person.

Proceeds will support scholarships for students attending the gospel music and conducting course that is part of the CSU Summer Arts program. The two-week program, housed at Fresno State, features two-week courses and public presentations conducted by acclaimed artists and teachers. Participants pay between $1,300 and $1,800 to take courses and live on campus.

Scholarship recipients will be students in the Summer Arts class “Gospel Singing and Conducting Made Easy: Break It Down for Us.”

The course, conducted June 29-July 12, will be led by Grammy Award-winning contemporary gospel artist Edwin Hawkins, James Hall, founder of the gospel ensemble Worship & Praise, and Christopher St. James, who has directed numerous choirs.

Fresno State Theatre Arts Professor Thomas-Whit Ellis is the course coordinator.

Tickets are tax-deductible. For more information about the dinner event, visit www.morethanjustameal.org.
