The artwork of Cynthia Cameron, a graduate student in the California State University, Fresno Art and Design Department, will be on display in the Conley Gallery March 13-27. A teacher and a substitute teacher within Fresno Unified and Clovis Unified school districts, Cameron plans to teach at the college level.

The exhibit, titled “As It Appears,” features a combination of large format oil paintings on panel and smaller, more intimate prints on paper. Cameron’s work takes an amusing yet poignant view of the contemporary cultural, psychological and political American landscape as seen through her eyes. In each piece, she gives a pictorial narrative of her concerns and possible ways to resolve them.

Cameron started taking her art seriously when she was living in the hills of Madera. She previously attended the San Francisco Art Institute and returned to the Fresno area and worked for the Fresno Arts Council. In 2006, she began attending Fresno State as a master’s degree student.

There will be a reception for the exhibit on Thursday, March 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Conley Callery. The reception is free and open to the public. During the reception, parking is free in Lot B, just south of the Conley Building.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Conley Gallery is located in the Phebe Conley Arts Building, which is accessible from Maple or Woodrow avenues, north of Shaw Avenue.
