Paving of the parking lot at the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market at Fresno State is complete and the parking area may be reopened during the week of March 17.

Paving and other work in the lot and surrounding areas is part of the Chestnut Avenue widening project. Existing asphalt areas were torn out to create a new and improved parking lot, including better driveway approaches, product loading/unloading areas and designated parking stalls for persons with disabilities.

During the week of March 17, weather permitting, the final paving of Chestnut Avenue from Barstow to Bullard will be undertaken. Because of the work, Barstow Avenue will be closed from Woodrow to Willow Avenue during the week to allow for the contractor to complete paving on each side of roundabout at Barstow/Chestnut avenues. Preparation for paving of Shaw to Barstow also will be done that week. Access to the Farm Market will be from Shaw via Woodrow and Chestnut avenues. Message boards will direct drivers.

Barstow will reopen during the week of March 24 and final paving will begin between Shaw and Barstow avenues.

The paving has to “set” prior to striping work. It is anticipated all of the work will be completed by April 11 and approvals will be sought from the city of Fresno to reopen the street.

Work remaining on the project includes new traffic signal equipment at Shaw/Chestnut and Bullard/Chestnut and widening of westbound lane from Highway 168 to Woodrow Avenue in front of the Save Mart Center.
