The Fresno Community Chorus will perform its spring concert, “Cries, Sighs, and Prayers,” at California State University, Fresno at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, in Music Building Concert Hall.
Under the direction of Fresno State music professor Anna Hamre, Chorus Coro Piccolo will sing Stravinsky’s spiritual “Mass” and the Master Chorale will sing the lively Brahms “Liebeslieder Waltzer.”

Special memorial tributes will be performed during the concert, including an organ work in memory of the late Elizabeth Lyles, who donated funds that helped make possible the purchase of the organ housed in the Concert Hall.

As part of the year-long William Saroyan Centennial, the program includes “From the Ends of the Earth” by American composer Alan Hovhaness. He was one of the earliest 20th century composers to integrate Western musical idioms with Eastern ones, including those of his Armenian heritage.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for general admission and $8 for students. For more information, call 559.278.2539.

On May 10 and 11, the Chamber Singers from Fresno State and Fresno City College will join with the Master Chorale to perform Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” with the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra in their “American Inspiration” concert.
