Two teams from the Craig School of Business at California State University, Fresno will compete in the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) western regional HR Games tournament in Long Beach on Saturday, April 5.

The HR Games uses a “Jeopardy”-style format in which students are quizzed in management practices, employee selection, labor and employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development, and safety and health.

In March, Trisha Pfister, Suzy Kazaryan, and Erik Holland advanced to the regionals by placing third in the California State HR Games, held in San Jose. The trio finished the eight-game round-robin state tournament undefeated, tallying 14,600 points (out of 15,000).

The second Fresno State team, whose members include Vanig Panosian, Jennifer Holmes and Brian Jenkins, compiled five wins and two losses in the state competition to finish sixth.

The teams will attempt to secure the fourth regional title for the Craig School of Business. Top ranking teams from Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Hawaii and Idaho also will be at the regional tournament. Fresno State teams have qualified all nine years of the regional competition, and in two of those years went on to win the national championship.

Fresno State teams have competed in all 15 years of state competition, placing teams in the top three in all but one year.

The teams are coached by faculty members Drs. Rudy J. Sanchez, Jill Bradley and Bran Lyons of the Craig School of Business.

The Craig School of Business HR Games teams have received support from a number of organizations, including the Business Associates of the Craig School of Business; Human Resource Association of Central California; Associated Students Inc.; and the SHRM Student Chapter.
