Dr. Sasan Fayazmanesh, who chairs the Department of Economics at California State University, Fresno, will discuss his recently published book on United States-Iran sanctions at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 1, on campus.

The event, which is open to the public free of charge, will be held in the Peters Building’s University Business Center (Room 192).

Fayazmanesh’s lecture is sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities’ Middle East Studies Project. A reception will follow and will honor Department of Anthropology faculty Dr. Ellen Gruenbaum and Dr. Jay O’Brien for their contributions to Middle East studies at Fresno State.

Fayazmanesh wrote “The United States and Iran Sanctions, Wars and the Policy of Dual Containment,” published March 31 (Routledge Press; $140). The book examines the history of the policy as it has played out over the past several years in the author’s native country.

The Middle East Studies Project at Fresno State is aimed at improving undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages to promote better understanding of a pivotal point in the world. A study-abroad program in Cairo, Egypt, and collaboration with regional institutions will pave the way for future development of the program, which is funded by a U.S. Department of Education Title VI-A grant.
