When it comes to campus safety, Officer Robert Bergman has you as his top priority. He’s so conscientious, in fact, that he has been honored for his work by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Bergman joined the University Police Department just over two years ago. It was always a dream of his to become a police officer. After jobs on a dairy and in construction, he set out to become a police officer. Several police agencies were interested in hiring him when he completed training, and he chose to come to Fresno State.

“I enjoy working at a small agency where I can interact with a diverse community on a daily basis,” he says.

He was recently honored with an award from MADD for his 27 arrests of drunk drivers in 2007. University Police Department is a part of a multi-agency effort to crack down on drunk driving in the Central Valley.

Bergman’s assignments include working large campus events at the Save Mart Center, football games at Bulldog Stadium and patrolling the campus. His calm demeanor, quick response and heart of service are a perfect fit for the campus community.

Bergman says appreciates the special needs of a university and enjoys opportunities to talk to faculty, staff and students about safety and alcohol awareness.
