Community service is an important part of being a student-athlete at Fresno State. On Aug. 14, the Fresno State volleyball team took time out of their practice schedule to spend the morning at Children’s Hospital Central California in Madera to volunteer their time.

All 14 members of the team along with head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell and assistant coach Ed Jackson participated. They split into several different groups and headed to different areas of the hospital.

For the first hour, groups of three student-athletes were reading books to children in the waiting rooms of Medical Imaging, the Heart Center, Neurology, the Pulmonology Center and Oncology clinics among others. The program is part of the Literacy Fair put on by the hospital quarterly.
